Consumers don’t tend to react well when they feel they have been short-changed. This easy to understand concept is illustrated splendidly by the class action lawsuits titled Soto v. Wild Planet Foods, Inc and Shihad v. Wild Planet Foods, Inc. Both cases have recently come to a hefty $1.7 million settlement to resolve allegations that the Defendant under-filled its cans of tuna in violation of state and federal law. It should be noted that the Defendant denies the allegations brought by the Plaintiffs along with any wrongdoing whatsoever. At this point it appears the dispute will be left undecided as the parties have agreed to settle the case and put an end to the litigation before it reaches the more expensive and riskier stages. Those who believe they are eligible for compensation can start a claim by going to the Wild Planet Settlement page and clicking the File a Claim tab.
A Few Things to be Aware Of
- Includes resident of the U.S. who purchased any brand of Wild Planet tuna from November 5th, 2011 and May 12th, 2017
- Class Members will receive compensation in the amount of $29 (may be reduced if the amount of claims exceed the fund)
- A receipt or proof of purchase is not required for Class Members to receive compensation from the Wild Planet Settlement
- Claim Forms must be filed no later than August 25th, 2017 (or post-marked no later than this date if filing though the mail)
August 25th, 2017 is also the deadline by which Class Members must file requests to be excluded and settlement objections. Those who are interested in attending the Fairness Hearing will need to circle the date of September 14th, 2017 on the calendar.
